About Us

Our Commitment to Values – A Little History

New Braunfels Conservatives can trace its roots back to 1964. A group of women encouraged the few Republicans in New Braunfels at the time, to come together and form the organization that was to become known as New Braunfels Republican Women (NBRW). The commitment to values established in 1964 is still with us today.

The first officers of this newly formed club were Roxolin Krueger (President), Mary Margaret Dickenson (Vice President), Bucky Smith (Secretary), and Zelda Adams (Treasurer). The Board of Directors included: Jeanette Altgelt, Janelle Berger, Robbie Borchers, Carol Byles, Betty Ann Davis, Ann Karbach, Mary Keyes, Frances Lewis, Beverly Ohlrich, Ocie Ollom, Allene Wofford, and Louise Woodward.

Through the years NBRW worked hard toward meeting its original goal, to bring Republican leadership to New Braunfels, Comal County, and Texas. But in 1974, Comal County had only one Republican officeholder. By 2001 though, their efforts paid off in an incredible way – every countywide officeholder was a Republican.

Path breaking efforts also began in Caring for America projects with care gifts for solders in Iraq, collections of school supplies for needy children, gifts to Fisher House, presentation of dictionaries to third graders, two college scholarships to high school senior girls in the name of Linden Anderson, along with support for many other worthwhile projects.

In December 1994, the first Christmas Tour of Homes took place. Thirty-one years later that traditional event is still going strong. In 2014, NBRW celebrated their 50th Anniversary with an event “Celebrating 50 Years of Promoting Conservative Values”, recognizing its rich history, and honoring the people that created and grew the club.

In 2020, the organization transitioned from the umbrella of the Texas Federation of Republican Women to become the New Braunfels Conservatives. The same values, the same mission, the same hard work. Today we are still striving to “Keep Texas Red”, especially Comal County, by providing the voters in our area with the information and knowledge they need to make smart choices at the ballot box.
